REDEVELOPMENT: THE SECRET GOVERNMENT
El Cerrito Monthly Meeting

Monday, July 14 -- Gretchen and Art Lipow are experts on Redevelopment Agencies and the dangers they bring to local communities with outside developers. These agencies consume 12% of all property taxes statewide and have a total state indebtedness of $81 million. They can be created and incur public debt in our name without a vote! Once a project is created, property tax increases are diverted to the agency and away from the school district, counties and cities. See El Cerrito City website, under "Economic Development" for more info on this issue.

Instant Runoff Voting (IRV)

Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) makes sure that candidates win by an absolute majority of votes. Instead of choosing one candidate, you can rank your choices -- first choice, second choice, and so on. With IRV, all of our votes really count! And, IRV eliminates the "spoiler effect." Vote your beliefs, not your fears. You can read more about IRV here and here.
